It’s been almost exactly a year since Audi revealed its Q8 concept at the Detroit Auto Show 2017, so it seems appropriate that spy photographers caught the production model almost completely uncovered. Also impressive is the fact that the outside survived without being sweetened much. In fact, in a field, it is actually a little more aggressive.
On the front, the Audi crossover lighthouse is the only Audi with a full-face, geometric Grill flanked by sharp headlights at the top. Although similar to the hexagonal grid on the new A8 and A7, the Q8 are actually octagonal. And instead of just horizontal bars, the grid has a crate egg mesh pattern. The vertical bars are a bit deeper and will probably have chrome accents to make them stand out, as on the concept. The headlights differ from the concept, but as they have Fang-like extensions to distant edges.
Other survivals of the concept include roof and fenders. It has a slender rear hatch, and a large glass area that does not stretch far beyond the doors. It gives the SUV crossover a sporty and neat form. The Q8 also exaggerated the fender lines on the wheels that are quickly becoming an Audi staple. It seems that on this model, but the flares are in a contrasting color, rather than the color parts of the body on the concept.
The back of the Q8 is the most attenuated. The simple lines of light used on the concept provided the path for a recurrence of the full-width Audi taillights Most similar to that of the A8 sedan. The rear bumper also loses the aggressive fake diffuser, and it receives more conventional exhaust outlets.
We should not have long to wait for Q8 full, official reveal. The crossover is planned to start production this year. As such, we expect to see it appear in Geneva or New York shows as soon as possible, or perhaps later at the Paris show this fall.
