REVIEW :
What it is: The new CADILLAC flagship sedan, must be the format of the vehicle that takes the top Caddy. Even bigger than the CT6, the CT8 will take the establishment into the luxury-limousine class and will be the head of technology and model for the brand.

Why it matters: Cadillac must prove its status as a global competitor of the Germans, Jaguar and Lexus, and the brand must prove that it can order six-digit prices. Having an elegant and technologically advanced car in the S-Class league could just do the trick.

Platform: Like the CT6, the CT8 is built on the Omega platform, designed for rear and four-wheel drive applications. Thanks to an intelligent blend of aluminum and high strength steels, it must undercut the competition for several hundred pounds.

Powertrain: Look for a double-turbo V-6 and a new Twin-turbo 4.2-litre V-8 with about 500 hp. A plug-in hybrid is also likely to be offered.
