REVIEW :
The wave changes on the outside are small enough that you will hardly notice unless the new model is parked right next to the old one. All Golf and GTIS get LED daytime running lights, with Full-led headlights available as an upgrade, replacing the previous bixenons. The front and rear bumpers were restyling-now with even more straight lines!-and taillamps new LED dress up the derrières of all the wave models of the humble wave S to the mighty R wave. New wheel designs and paint choices also come before 2018.

New interior trim and materials dress up the golf course 2018 a little, and most of the versions enjoy more standard equipment. The S, for example, will get a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system to replace last year’s 5.0-incher, as well as rain-sensing wiper blades. Wave as the models upgrade to a new 8.0-inch touchscreen display, and the availability of Forward-Collision alert and automatic emergency braking systems now add pedestrian recognition. Top-Dog Golf sel models Add Adaptive cruise control and a self-darkening mirror. There are no changes made to the 170-PK Turbo 1.8-liter in line-four, which serves all non-GTI Golf models or their transmissions-yes, the manual still offers only five forward speeds, while the automatic has six.

The GTI
It’s another story for one of our favorite cars, the GTI. The Turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the GTI S base gets a 10-horsepower Boost for a total of 220 horsepower at 4700 rpm, with the pair unchanged at 258 lb-ft at 1500 rpm. This brings it in line with the 2018 SE models of the GTI and Autobahn (the level of adornment of the sport GTI has been eliminated). Choose a GTI S model with automatic six-speed Dual-Clutch transmission and you’ll get auto stop/Start engine functionality, too.

If you spring for the GTI SE, you now get the beefier brakes of the R wave, an electronically operated torque-Limited Slip differential sensing, and full LED lighting. The infotainment screen grows to 8.0 inches, and the seating surfaces are the traditional Scottish Clark cloth, with optional imitation leather. The GTI Autobahn is standard with adaptive shock absorbers plus the aforementioned 8.0 inch touchscreen in the dashboard, which includes navigation.

Although these mid-Cycle changes are not as thorough as those made for golf in other European golf markets they can be ordered with a 9.2 inch infotainment screen with sign control, two sipping 1.5-liter fuel four bangers, and adaptive Cruise control – should be sufficient to keep it competitive, provided prices do not rise much from current levels. We will not know how many VW is going to ask for the 2018 golf, GTI, and R golf to be closer to their fall on sales dates. As they were launched as value-added propositions, we do not expect prices to rise more than a few C-Notes over their current levels. Figure, then $21k will buy you a golf s Base, $26K a GTI s, and about $37K a wave base R.
